Marvel Studios has already put together an eclectic cast for the Fantastic Four's upcoming debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, from Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby as Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman to Ralph Ineson as Galactus. The studio doesn't look to be slowing down its casting, either, as Natasha Lyonne is set to join the upcoming superhero film.

Lyonne was confirmed to be joining Fantastic Four on Wednesday, though it was not revealed by Marvel Studios who she will be playing according to Deadline.

The Poker Face star joins what has become an ensemble cast led by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the titular team. Alongside Ineson's Galactus, Julia Garner will appear as the Shalla-Bal version of the Silver Surfer. John Malkovich and Paul Walter Hauser are set to appear, as well, though their characters have not been confirmed.

Lyonne's inclusion comes after a busy few years for the actress across film and television that has seen her re-enter mainstream stardom, with some of her biggest hits coming on streaming and the small screen. Netflix, in particular, played a significant part in bringing Lyonne's star back into the mainstream with her supporting role in Orange is the New Black followed by Lyonne's starring turn in Russian Doll.

The comedy-crime series Poker Face on Peacock is her latest hit, with the show receiving near-universal acclaim since it premiered in 2023. Lyonne's performance, in particular, was praised as Poker Face's proverbial anchor that helps guide the show's tone and earned her a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.

On the big screen, Lyonne has typically appeared in supporting roles across a variety of films that include Ad Astra, Uncut Gems, and DC League of Super-Pets.

Marvel's First Family

As much as Lyonne's role in Fantastic Four may be a mystery, fans are still wondering what is awaiting the team when they make their MCU debut in 2025. The film will mark the fourth feature adaptation of the team released in theaters, five counting the unreleased and infamous 1994 film produced by B-movie icon Roger Corman.

The team made their official theatrical debut with 2005's Fantastic Four directed by Tim Story, and starring Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, and future-MCU star Chris Evans as the team. While not well received by critics, the film was a box office hit and led to the 2007 sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

A reboot would be released in 2015 directed by Josh Trank, who had been in high demand by studios after the release of his found footage superhero film Chronicle. The reboot starred Miles Teller, Jamie Bell, Kate Mara, and another future-MCU star in Michael B. Jordan as the titular team, but the film was mired by reports of behind the scenes conflicts between Trank and the studio that reportedly led to significant reshoots and changes to Trank's original vision.

2015's Fantastic Four was ultimately a critical and box office failure, and the character rights would return to Marvel after Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019.

Fantastic Four is scheduled to release in theaters on July 25, 2025.
