Per Nicks with podcast host John Schmeelk's “Giants Huddle” podcast:
Nicks, 32, who last played for the New Orleans Saints in preseason in 2016, was a key contributor to the Giants' magical 2011 season, catching a career-best 1,192 receiving yards on 76 catches, scoring seven touchdowns in his third NFL season. Nicks was a late-first-round selection of the G-Men in the 2009 NFL Draft out of the University of North Carolina.
The Giants snuck into the postseason by snatching the NFC East division title by one game, going 9-7 and winning three of their final four regular-season matchups.
Nicks cites the Giants' Christmas Eve 2011 victory over MetLife Stadium co-tenant New York Jets, who were coming over two consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances in 2009, as a driving force and turning point for the G-Men, who then knew they had a chance to make history.
Nicks had an incredible postseason performance for the Giants in 2011, catching 28 passes for 444 receiving yards and scoring four touchdowns in four games in the Super Bowl run.
