Glen Powell allegedly turned down a role in Jurassic World 4. Still, he called the script “great.”

In a new profile with The Hollywood Reporter, Powell talked about his upcoming projects. He has become one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood, but he seems against “Oscar bait” and Marvel projects for the time being. While he loves the Jurassic Park franchise, he still turned the series down.

“Jurassic is one of my favorite movies. It's one of the things I've wanted to do my whole life,” he revealed. “I'm not doing that movie because I read the script and I immediately was like, my presence in this movie doesn't help it.”

However, the script is “great” and the film will “f**king kill,” as Powell put it. “It's not about that,” Powell said. “It's about choosing where you're going to make an audience happy and where you're going to make yourself happy.”

Glen Powell has quickly become one of the fastest-rising stars in Hollywood. He began his career with roles in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, The Wendell Baker Story, and Fast Food Nation. He continued with steady work appearing in episodes of CSI: Miami and NCIS.

Some of his other film credits include small roles in The Dark Knight Rises, The Expendables 3, and Ride Along 2.

His breakthrough came in 2015 when he starred in the first season of Scream Queens. Powell took on a recurring role in the second season.

This helped propel Powell to more roles. He had roles in Hidden Figures and Set It Up before his 2022 breakout year. Powell kicked off the year by starring in Richard Linklater's Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood.

Then, Powell starred in Top Gun: Maverick as Lieutenant Jake “Hangman” Seresin. He closed out the year by starring in another war film, Devotion.

2023 started off with another Linklater collaboration. Powell co-wrote, produced, and starred in Hit Man. He then starred in the rom-com Anyone But You with Sydney Sweeney. Anyone But You was a big hit for rom-coms, grossing over $200 million at the box office, an overall win for the genre.

In 2024, Powell will star in Lee Isaac Chung's Twisters. The film also stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos.

The Jurassic World franchise

The Jurassic World franchise is a continuation of the iconic Jurassic Park series. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard led three installments in the franchise.

All three were big hits at the box office. They remain the top three highest-grossing films in the entire Jurassic franchise. Jurassic World kicked off the new trilogy of films in 2014, grossing a franchise-high $1.6 billion. Fallen Kingdom, the first sequel, grossed $1.3 billion, and Dominion made just over $1 billion.

While Pratt and Howard seem done with the series, Scarlett Johansson is reportedly in talks for Jurassic World 4. Gareth Edwards, fresh off of his film The Creator, is set to direct it. Powell would have made a great co-lead for the film, but that will have to remain a dream for fans of the franchise.
