Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball will most likely miss their upcoming game against the New York Knicks, per the Charlotte Observer's Rod Boone.

“LaMelo Ball (right ankle) is doubtful for tomorrow's in-season tournament game against the Knicks in New York. James Bouknight is probable,” Boone tweeted on Monday.

LaMelo Ball injured his ankle during the Hornets' 130-117 loss to the Orlando Magic on Sunday. He checked out of the game early and did not return.

Ball's ankle injury woes continue. He fractured his right ankle on February 27 and underwent surgery shortly afterward. LaMelo Ball suited up in just 36 games for the Hornets last season.

Nevertheless, Ball averaged 23.3 points and 8.4 assists prior to the season-ending injury. He earned his first career NBA All-Star selection several weeks before fracturing his right ankle.

LaMelo Ball has been producing similar numbers for the Hornets this season. He had been averaging 24.7 points. 5.5 rebounds, and 8.2 assists in the 2023-24 NBA campaign.

Despite Ball's best efforts, the struggling Hornets have won just five of 15 games this year. Charlotte has the fourth-worst record in the Eastern Conference.

LaMelo ball has been one of the few bright spots during the Hornets' abysmal start. He enjoyed a fine stretch the week before his right ankle injury.

Ball scored at least 30 points four times in five games prior to Thanksgiving. That included a 36-point explosion in the Hornets' 121-118 comeback win over the Boston Celtics on November 21.

Ball also re-wrote NBA history when he became the second-fastest player to rack up 500 career triples. He needed just 175 games to pull off the impressive feat.

He also became the third-youngest baller to achieve that goal behind the Minnesota Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards and Dallas Mavericks' Luka Doncic.

Here's wishing the Hornets' LaMelo Ball a speedy recovery.
