Hulk Hogan is born Terry Eugene Bollea in Augusta, Georgia. His family moved to Port Tampa, Florida when he was one and a half years old. As a kid, he was a pitcher in Little League Baseball and he attracted scouts from the New York Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds. Unfortunately, an injury ended his baseball career.

Hogan was also a musician who plays the fretless bass guitar. He studied at Hillsborough Community College and the University of Florida while playing for several Florida-based rock bands. He then formed a band named Ruckus in 1976 with two local musicians. The band became popular around the Tampa Bay Area.

He worked out at Hector’s Gym in Tampa Bay during his spare time. He then caught the attention of Jack and Gerald Brisco, two brothers who wrestled together as a tag team in the Florida region. They were impressed by Hogan’s physique and asked Hiro Matsuda, who trained wrestlers that perform at Championship Wrestling from Florida, to make him a trainee.

After training for a year with Matsuda, Hogan made his debut in the CWF on August 10, 1977. He eventually donned the persona of “The Super Destroyer” who was a hooded character first played by Don Jardine.

He then wrestled in the Alabama territory along with his friend Ed Leslie — they were known as Terry and Ed Boulder, the Boulder Brothers. The pair received an offer to wrestle for a promotion in Memphis that offers them $800 a week. Hogan and Leslie accepted the offer.

Hogan appeared in a talk show during his time in Memphis, he sat beside Lou Ferrigno who was the star of The Incredible Hulk television series at that time. The host commented on how Hogan dwarfed Ferrigno. As a result, he began performing under the name of Terry “The Hulk” Boulder.

In 1979, Hogan was introduced to Vincent J. McMahon, the owner and promoter of the World Wrestling Federation. McMahon was impressed with his charisma and physical stature. He wanted to use an Irish name for Bollea, and eventually gave him the last name “Hogan”.

During this time, Hogan made a name for himself and eventually started a feud with fellow wrestling great Andre the Giant.

In 1980, Hogan began wrestling in the New Japan Pro-Wrestling where the Japanese wrestling fans gave him the nickname “Ichiban” which means “Number One”. He still appeared in the WWF even if he’s performing in Japan.

He became the first winner of the International Wrestling Grand Prix tournament. He was also the first IWGP Heavyweight Championship after defeating Antonio Inoki by knockout in a ten-man tournament. His stint in Japan lasted until 1985.

During this time, he also wrestled in the American Wrestling Association promotion.

After Vince McMahon purchased the company from his father, he handpicked Hogan to be the company’s main star due to his charisma.  This started the “Hulkamania” era for Hogan, and he often referred to his fans as “Hulkamaniacs”.

He also introduced his “three demandments”: training, saying prayers, and eating vitamins. Hogan’s gear usually consists of a characteristic red and yellow color scheme. His ring entrances involved him ripping his shirt off his body, flexing, and listening to the audience for cheers in an exaggerated manner.

He became the face of professional wrestling and was internationally renowned not just by wrestling fans as Vince McMahon pushed the WWF into a pop culture enterprise with the Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Connection on MTV.

Hulk Hogan was the most requested celebrity in the 1980s for the Make-A-Wish foundation. He was also featured on the covers of Sports Illustrated, TV Guide, and People magazines. He had his own CBS Saturday morning cartoon titled Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘n’ Wrestling and he also hosted Saturday Night Live on March 30, 1985.

On June 11, 1994, Hulk Hogan officially signed with the World Championship Wrestling promotion. In his debut match against Ric Flair, he won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

In 1996, Hogan delivered a promo addressing the fans and the WCW that they are under-appreciating his talent and drawing power, and he announced the formation of his stable called the New World Order (nWo). This time around, Hogan traded for his red and yellow colors for black and white clothing and he renamed himself “Hollywood Hogan”.

In February 2002, Hogan made his way back in the WWF as the leader of the original nWo. He eventually went back to his signature red and yellow despite still being known as “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan.

Hogan then left the WWE in 2003 after being unhappy with the payoffs for his matches. However, he came back in 2005. He was also included in the WWE Hall of Fame with the class of 2005 on April 2, 2005.

On July 24, 2015, the WWE terminated Hogan’s contract as well as removing anything Hulk Hogan related in their website, merchandise, and even his WWE Hall of Fame page after Hogan made an anti-black rant on his controversial leaked sex tape. The issue received mix responses from his fellow African-American wrestlers, and he pleaded for forgiveness during an interview with ABC.

Three years later after the incident, Hulk Hogan was reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame and he later made his return to the WWE. On December 9, 2019, Hulk Hogan was inducted into the hall of fame for a second time as a member of the New World Order along with Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Sean Waltman.

Aside from his tenure as a professional wrestler, Hulk Hogan also dabbled in multiple business ventures. He had three restaurants opened from 1995 to 2015 named Pastamania, Hogan’s Beach, and Hogan’s Hangout.

He also endorsed a blender known as Hogan Thunder Mixer and a grill known as “The Hulk Hogan Ultimate Grill”. Hogan had an energy drink called Hogan Energy and his likeness was used in a line of microwaveable hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and chicken sandwiches sold at Wal-Mart called Hulksters Burgers.

Hulk Hogan appeared in different forms of media such as movies, TV, music and radio, action figures, and video games. He has more than 20 credits to his name in various movies and TV projects.

His influence, charisma, and overall character helped the professional wrestling industry be what it is today. Hogan is even included in the Mount Rushmore of NBA superstar Damian Lillard. It’s safe to say that he will be forever remembered as a wrestling legend. Nonetheless, were you at all stunned by Hulk Hogan's net worth in 2021?
