The Jacksonville Jaguars have made the signing of quarterback Nick Foles official. As a result, quarterback Blake Bortles has been subsequently let go.

The Jaguars wasted no time in making Foles their new franchise quarterback. Bortles is now set to hit the market as a free agent this offseason, via Twitter.

According to Pro Football Talk, Bortles' release will still charge $16.5 million towards the cap.

Jaguars release of Blake Bortles is not a post-June 1 designation, per source. The cap charge will be $16.5 million, but he'll be off the books for 2020.

Jags also will get a cap credit for 2020 based on any 2019 Bortles earnings elsewhere, up to $6.5 million.

The move to release Bortles may have cost Jacksonville a pretty penny. This comes after they signed Foles to a lucrative four-year, $88 million deal with over $50 million guaranteed. However, it is clear that they were ready to move on with a new quarterback under center.

The Jaguars had already invested enough into Bortles after selecting him with the third overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Although he had shown some flashes of promise early on, he was never able to live up to the hype of his draft spot. Despite his struggles, Jacksonville still decided to extend his contract prior to the 2018 campaign.

It has not taken long for them to realize they had made another mistake after deciding to bring in Foles this offseason. Bortles will now test the waters of free agency following a lackluster stint as a starter with the Jaguars.
