Jacksonville apparently isn't done making moves. The Jaguars have released running back Leonard Fournette.

The news was reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter:

The Jaguars' official twitter account also confirmed the news:

Leonard Fournette was a highly-touted draft prospect for the Jaguars, who used their number 4 overall pick to select him back in 2017.

Huge expectations were laid out on the young freshman's shoulders. The former LSU standout had a solid rookie season, posting 1,040 rushing yards and nine touchdowns through 13 games. In three seasons with the Jags, he's garnered totals of 2,631 yards on 4 yards a carry. He also tallied 17 touchdowns.

Although he posted decent numbers on the box score, he never truly lived up to his potential as a dominant offensive force. The raw numbers didn't paint the same picture of efficiency as Jacksonville fans would have hoped.

Fournette has also had his fair share of run-ins. In 2018, the running back infamously got into a fist fight with Bills player Shaq Lawson.

This move comes just a day after trading away star pash rusher Yannick Ngakoue.

Although unlike Ngakoue, the Jaguars reportedly had a hard time finding a suitor for Fournette. The running back had been shopped on the market for months, but with no takers.

The unsuccessful gamble Jacksonville made with Fournette serves as a cautionary tale for drafting a running back so high up in the draft.

With both Yannick Ngakoue and Leonard Fournette no longer on the squad, Jaguars fans are looking forward to a new era of football in Jacksonville.
