Golden State Warriors superstar Kevin Durant denied a rumor Tuesday that stated LeBron James texted him over the summer about joining the Los Angeles Lakers before free agency started July 1.

James signed a four-year deal with the Lakers, while Durant re-signed with the Warriors on a one-plus-one deal. ESPN's Stephen A. Smith said in late June that LeBron had texted KD about teaming up in Los Angeles.

“Hell no,” Durant said, via Mark Medina of The Mercury News. “That was all false. All false. 100 percent false. He didn’t talk about none of that stuff.”

Even if LeBron did text Durant, there's no way Durant would admit to it. The nine-time All-Star has sort of a murky relationship with the media as it is, so he's not going to give them inside information.

Plus, it's hard to envision a scenario where Durant and James team up. Durant has two rings, while James has three. If Durant joins James on the Lakers say next summer, he's only going to help LeBron get more championships. Durant seems like the type of guy who would want to surpass James instead of aiding him.

Durant and the Warriors have won back-to-back championships and are heavy favorites to win it all again this season. James and the Lakers, meanwhile, could struggle to make the playoffs in the rugged Western Conference considering LeBron is surrounded by a lot of young guys and players who don't really fit well next to him.

The Lakers and Warriors face each other on Wednesday, and they will see one another four times during the regular season.
