Since taking over as the No. 1 ranked college football program, Oregon football looks to continue its reign in 2025 with the newest transfer portal signing in Eugene, OR. After being named the 2023 True Freshman of the Year with Purdue by 247Sports, Dillon Thieneman officially committed to Oregon football on Saturday, per Chris Hummer on X.

“Purdue safety transfer Dillon Thieneman has committed to Oregon,” Hummer wrote. “He was the @247Sports True Freshman of the Year in 2023.”

Following two seasons with Purdue, Thieneman is now headed to the No. 1 team in the nation, expected to help assist an Oregon defense that allowed 17.8 points per game throughout the 2024 season.

With the Oregon football program rising the ranks within college football under head coach Dan Lanning, the addition to Thieneman is expected to make this team an even bigger threat in the Big Ten.

After beating Penn State in the Big Ten Championship, Oregon football awaits to see who they face in the Rose Bowl.

And with the 2024 college football season still unfinished, Oregon's defense is adding an impeccable defender in Thieneman.

As mentioned, Thieneman was the 247 Sports True Freshman of the Year in 2023. With Purdue that season, Thieneman played in 12 games, totaling 106 tackles, six interceptions, two passes defended, two forced fumbles, and two tackles for loss.

His numbers in 2023 are even more impressive after considering Thieneman was a true freshman doing what he did in a talented Big Ten conference.

His sophomore season wasn't as impressive, however, as Thieneman failed to come down with a single interception in 2024. Thieneman still totaled 104 tackles, seven passes defended, five tackles for loss, and a sack in.

So, while he dipped in turnover production in 2024, he remained a tackling machine at Purdue.

And with Oregon's football program requiring more talented defenders after losing their own share of defensive players to the transfer portal, this could be a huge get for Lanning and his Ducks.

However, Oregon's sole focus is on winning its first National Championship in program history, starting with a win in the Rose Bowl.
