It didn't take Nathan Peterman long to reunite with the Chicago Bears. Two days after the Bears cut Nathan Peterman, the quarterback has re-signed with Chicago. Peterman is in line to be the Bears' No. 3 quarterback behind Justin Fields and Tyson Bagent.
When the Bears let Peterman go earlier in the week, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero that Chicago wanted to bring the quarterback back to the practice squad. Peterman has joined the Bears' 53-man roster with offensive linemen Teven Jenkins and Doug Kramer going on injured reserve.
Chicago also signed wide receiver Trent Taylor to the 53-man roster.
Despite often being ridiculed for his brief time as an NFL starter, Peterman has been part of the league pretty consistently since 2017. The 29-year-old started the 2022 season as a member of the Bears' practice squad and joined the active roster in November after Fields got hurt. Peterman started for Chicago in the season finale. He went 11-of-19 for 114 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in a 29-13 loss against the Minnesota Vikings.
In 160 career pass attempts, Peterman has a 53.1% completion rate, four touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
If the best-case scenario, neither Bears' quarterback who is behind Fields on the depth chart will see any meaningful action in 2023. Chicago is hopeful that Fields can take a significant step forward in his third NFL season. Fields has dealt with injuries in each of his first two NFL seasons.
Bagent wasn't particularly impressive in the Bears' 2023 preseason finale. The quarterback completed 7 of 14 passes for just 43 yards with an interception.
