The Jacksonville Jaguars are still waiting on defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, but head coach Doug Marrone isn't too concerned about it. Ngakoue has been indicating for a while now that he plans to holdout in search of a new contract, but as Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com points out, the CBA may force his hand soon.

In order to accrue his fourth season and enter free agency next year, Ngakoue must report to the team no later than 30 days before their first game. The Jaguars open the season on September 8th, which means he'll have to report in just over a week unless he wants to be a restricted free agent next spring.

Talking to the media, Marrone downplayed any potential tension between the two sides.

“We've been talking to him,” Marrone said Thursday before practice. “It's just between Yannick and his agent, management, contracts, but he's working hard. He's trying to get this thing done. We're trying to get this thing done. We're excited for him. He's going to come. He will report. I don't know when. I know it'll be before a certain date, and when he comes, we'll be excited about it.”

Ngakoue is entering the final year of his rookie deal after being drafted in the third-round out of Maryland back in 2016. He hasn't missed a game since entering the year and has been a consistent pass-rusher for the team. Over the past three years, he's racked up 29.5 sacks, and he made the Pro Bowl in 2017.

He's still only 24 and is likely looking for a massive payday. Marrone's comments make it seem like the franchise is working its way toward giving him one.
