Lawrence, the no. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, hit Manhertz with a bullet pass for a 22-yard touchdown, cutting the Texans' lead to just seven points after placekicker Josh Lambo earned Jacksonville the extra point. As of writing this, Lawrence is 9/16 for 127 yards.
Article Continues BelowLawrence was a no-brainer choice as the no. 1 pick for the Jaguars, as the 6'6 21-year-old had an impressive career at Clemson, making First-Team All-American in 2020 and winning the ACC Player of the Year award.
It's already been quite a day for rookie quarterbacks, as San Francisco 49ers rookie Trey Lance came in for Jimmy Garoppolo and quickly earned his first career touchdown, on his first-ever pass no less.
Jaguars Head Coach Urban Meyer no-doubt has a challenging task ahead of him for his first NFL head-coaching gig given the Jaguars' overall lack of talent, but Lawrence is already beginning to seem like a solidifier at quarterback that can help keep the offense afloat. It's only week 1, and Jacksonville currently trials the Texans as of writing this, but the future looks bright for Lawrence.
