The secret is out at this point in regards to whether or not the Jacksonville Jaguars need a quarterback or not. The answer is yes, yes they do.
Quarterback Blake Bortles is not the answer for the Jaguars going forward, and his inability to live up to expectations has left the organization in a bit of a dilemma. The Jaguars gave Bortles a three-year extension through 2020 worth $54 million, but it would be in their best interest at this point to move on and look elsewhere for a quarterback.
The Jaguars best bet ahead of the 2019 season would be to draft a quarterback with their seventh overall pick. Many mock drafts have the Jaguars taking a quarterback; it's just a matter of who at this point and who their preference would be. Seeing as 2018 Heisman winning quarterback Kyler Murray has declared for the NFL draft, he could very well be the answer for the Jaguars.
Murray put on quite the performance at the University of Oklahoma in his final season. Murray passed for 3,674 yards and 37 touchdowns as well running for 853 yards and 11 touchdowns. Murray is a dual-threat, and that's something a lot of NFL teams like from a quarterback coming out of college. The Houston Texans took Deshaun Watson last season, and the Baltimore Ravens drafted Lamar Jackson in the 2018 draft, and both players provide that same dual-threat. A quarterback who can not only pass the ball at a high level and take off for a run at any given moment is a fantastic addition to any team's offense.
Article Continues BelowMurray is an extremely talented athlete, and the Jaguars would be able to provide the college star with some fantastic talent if he were to be drafted by Jacksonville. Wide receivers Dede Westbrook and Keelan Cole are great receivers along with running back Leonard Fournette who provides a huge boost to the offense.
If the Jaguars provide Murray with more help on offense, the team could likely return to the postseason considering they have potentially one of the most talented defensive units in the league. Murray has a great arm and plays the game with a high football IQ. The Jaguars are more or less set on defense, but the quarterback position has been their Achilles heel for Jacksonville. When the Jaguars made their fantastic run last season, the defense lead them the entire way and the offense only ever really did just enough to stay within reach of a win. Aside from Fournette, the Jaguars offense is amongst the worst in the league, especially regarding the passing game.
Murray will make a significant impact on any team that drafts him, but it's going to be exciting to see which team will draft him as their future quarterback.
