The Los Angeles Rams were hit with some crushing news on Tuesday morning as it was announced that running back Cam Akers ruptured his Achilles, in turn ending his 2021 season before it could even begin. The Rams leading rusher from last season is set for a long recovery, and now Sean McVay's team is back to the drawing board to find a way to make up the loss of Akers.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, The Rams don't plan on making any moves anytime soon.
Rams don't have any immediate plans to pursue a free-agent running back. They believe in Darrell Henderson, like last year's undrafted free agent RB Xavier Jones and also drafted RB Jake Funk in the seventh round this year. Interesting. Then again, Darell Henderson isn't a bad second option. The former University of Memphis star rushed for 624 yards with five scores and could very easily handle the starting job. Jake Funk caught the attention of everybody when he was in Maryland, and the Rams seem content with Xavier Jones as well.
Todd Gurley was mentioned as one option, although him not being able to find a job anywhere might be an indication of his ability.
The Rams do have a new gunslinger in Matthew Stafford, and with a ton of passing options including Cooper Kupp, Gerald Everett, and Robert Woods, they could easily turn into one of the more high-octane, passing-heavy offenses in the NFL.
So for now, the Rams are content, although that could change very quickly as the weeks go by.
