Following the New York Giants' decision to bench quarterback Eli Manning, it has put into question not only future with the team, but his long-term plans for his NFL career.

Manning made it clear after Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Oakland Raiders that he plans on returning for his 15th season in the league, according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.

“Yeah, I plan on playing next season,” Manning said.

The 36-year-old still has two more years remaining on his four-year, $84 million deal that will pay him $10.5 million next season and $11.5 million for the 2019 campaign. The Giants could get out from under his deal in 2019, as there is a potential out of just a $6.2 million dead cap hit.

In the first game without Manning as the starter in more than 13 years, New York struggled to move the ball consistently with backup Geno Smith, who finished completing 21-of-34 passes for 212 yards with a touchdown and two turnovers.

In total, the Giants averaged just 4.3 yards per carry, including Smith averaging 5.4 yards per completion.

There should be more clarity reached on the situation this week when head coach Ben McAdoo makes it clear what the long-term plans are at quarterback for the rest of the season. That is, you know, if the reports of the coach's demise do not come to fruition, allowing him to make such plans.
