Former New York Giants players are coming out and giving their takes on the ongoing Odell Beckham Jr. contract saga. Former Giants quarterback Phil Simms has implored the team to finally pay OBJ what he’s worth.

Ex-Giants receiver Plaxico Burress, who went through his own contract situation with the Giants in his heyday, shared similar sentiments and added his own advice for how OBJ should handle his business.

“I hope that he doesn't let that (contract uncertainty) affect him going into training camp,” Burress said in an interview with NJ Advance Media. “I say just go pay the guy so they can put all that behind them and everybody goes into a season with a tremendous focus of winning another championship.”

“We had a great team back then. Hopefully, those same thoughts go through (Odell's) mind and he's able to make the decision to show up and perform.”

Burress, who was an integral part of the Giants’ Super Bowl-winning team in 2007, held out just ahead of the 2008 season as he looked to get a significant bump in pay from the $10 million he was owed over the next three years. He eventually got what he wanted, but not until just the start of the season.

Beckham’s situation is a bit different in that he’s coming off a serious injury and is targeting historic money. While he publicly proclaimed that he won’t hold out, a recent report suggests that it’s still possible if his contract talks don’t progress as expected.

It’s in everyone’s best interest to find a solution to this contract situation as soon as possible in order to prevent a potential training camp holdout. But unfortunately, it’s much easier said than done, and it could still take time before it’s finally resolved.
