Landon Collins was one of the most talked about big names ahead of the NFL trade deadline as a star that could end up switching teams. Despite all of the rumors, the New York Giants decided to hold onto him. Now, it appears that they may hold onto him even longer.

According to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Giants are currently expected to use their franchise tag on Collins to keep him in town for at least one more season.

Even though the Giants listened to trade offers for Landon Collins before the NFL's trade deadline, sources expect New York to place its franchise tag on the Pro Bowl safety if the team can't sign him to a long-term extension first.

Keeping Collins is the right decision for the Giants, who have struggled in a big way over the past couple of years. New York was rumored to be willing to sell all of its talents ahead of the deadline, but ended up trading Eli Apple and Damon Harrison.

New York does not have a lot of legitimate building blocks right now on their roster. Collins most definitely would fit into that category. He is one of the most talented safeties in the entire NFL and trading him away would have been a massive mistake.

Throughout the first seven games of the 2018 NFL season, Collins has racked up 62 total tackles to go along with a forced fumble and four defended passes. He may not have shown playmaking ability from an interception standpoint this season, but he has in the past.

At just 24 years old, the Giants need to do everything in their power to lock Collins up long-term.

Expect to see the franchise tag placed on Collins immediately this offseason. New York doesn't want to let him go and it wouldn't be shocking to see the two sides come together on a new contract.
