Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas still hasn’t reported to the team’s voluntary offseason programs as he continues to wait for a new contract. But it doesn’t appear as if his current absence will extend to the mandatory part of the offseason.

According to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has been in contact with Thomas and expects the All-Pro safety to report to the team’s mandatory minicamp next month.

This is consistent with what Thomas’ representatives told Seahawks GM John Schneider previously that Thomas wouldn’t hold out.

Thomas’ future with the Seahawks has been an ongoing saga all offseason as he enters the final year of his current contract. He has been heavily linked with a move to the Cowboys, but despite Dallas’ apparent interest, they haven’t been able to strike a deal with the Seahawks for the star safety.

The Seahawks have hinted that they still intend to retain Thomas’ services long-term. However, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero recently reported after Thomas didn’t show up to OTAs that the Seahawks still haven’t held contract talks with Thomas’ camp, and there don’t appear to be any discussions scheduled in the near future.

Thomas himself has also made it clear that he would like to stay in Seattle. While he’d obviously prefer to have a new deal signed before he gets back on the field, it seems unlikely that will happen soon. Nevertheless, it looks as if he still plans to fulfill his contractual obligations with the team even with that lack of long-term security.
