In the 18 seasons that Aaron Rodgers has been under center for the Green Bay Packers, the team has never selected a wide receiver in the first round of any NFL Draft. That's why Rodgers would be especially annoyed by this Mock Draft, courtesy of NFL Network's Cynthia Frelund, which predicts a Green Bay selection of Ohio State wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

There is nothing wrong with Frelund's NFL Mock Draft prediction. In fact, it would be quite sensible for the Packers to take Smith-Njigba, who would likely be regarded as the best receiver in the class save for a nagging hamstring injury that cost him most of his 2022 season.

Green Bay, which is preparing to hand the reins of the offense over to Jordan Love with an Aaron Rodgers trade looming, has just three receivers on their current depth chart.

Barring a last-minute free agent move, the Packers will almost certainly be selecting a wide receiver in the NFL Draft.

But one can imagine how Rodgers, who seemingly wanted the Packers to draft wideout Treylon Burks in the first round of last year's NFL Draft, would feel if the team turned around and did something they never did for him, just as he's leaving the franchise.

Of course, Rodgers, poised to join a Jets team that could make some noise in the AFC, may not care in the slightest.

And the Packers, who have to do what's best for their next franchise guy in Love, will take the best player available, even if it's a wide receiver.

But, to borrow a popular joke from earlier this offseason, whoever is writing this NFL script sure does have a taste for irony.
