The Los Angeles Rams dismantled the Arizona Cardinals to close out the Wild Card slate and nobody had more to gain than Matthew Stafford.

The Rams quarterback got the first ever playoff victory of his career. Stafford had played his first 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions, making the playoffs thrice but going 0-3 in those contests.

When asked about the win, Matthew Stafford instead deflected the attention back to the team.

Via ESPN:

“I'm just excited for our team to get the win,” the Rams QB said. “What a team effort. Our defense played outstanding tonight, special teams basically set up a score with [punter] Johnny [Hekker] pinning them down there, did a great job on field goals. And we were good enough on offense to score some points and come away with the win. Just happy to be moving on.”

Stafford is right that the defense was absolutely suffocating against Kyler Murray and the Cardinals, who were held scoreless throughout the entire first half. Special teams was also perfect on the evening.

But Matthew Stafford earned the win from his end as well, piling on 202 yards on an efficient 13-for-17 clip while throwing two touchdowns with zero interceptions.

If the Rams continue to play the all-around game that their roster permits them to throughout the season, they can peak at exactly the right time for a Super Bowl run.
