The Los Angeles Rams lost their first game of the 2021 season to their NFC West division rivals Arizona Cardinals, and Matthew Stafford knows he shares part of the blame.

Stafford undoubtedly had his worst game of the season so far against the Cardinals, completing just 26 of his 41 passes for 280 yards–though most of it are non-impactful at all. He finished with two touchdowns, but it also came with an interception as the offense struggled and had a hard time getting anything going on the rushing and passing game, especially in the second half.

“I didn’t make throws. I have to do better,” Stafford said on his performance in the Rams' 37-20 loss to the Cardinals, per Michael J. Duarte of NBC Sports.

It was undoubtedly a disappointing display for Matthew Stafford, considering that he's coming off a big game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3. He basically outshined Tom Brady during the said showdown, recording 343 yards on 27-of-38 pass completion rate en route to four touchdowns without an interception.

There were high hopes that he could pick up where he left off in Week 4, especially in a battle of the undefeated and the top spot in the NFC West at stake. Unfortunately for Stafford, it was Kyler Murray who won the battle of the QBs.

Of course Stafford is not the only reason for the Rams' loss, with the linebacker corps also suspect. However, it's certainly good that the veteran QB is taking responsibility and is aware of his shortcomings.

The Rams have a chance to bounce back in Week 5 when they play the Seattle Seahawks, and it's safe to assume Stafford will be more motivated and hungrier than ever when they visit Lumen Field.
