Few teams in the NFL did more to drastically improve their roster during the NFL offseason than the Los Angeles Rams. After completely turning things around under first-year head coach Sean McVay following the end of the Jeff Fisher era, the franchise wasn't satisfied and made some impressive moves as a result.

The Rams already had a solid defense with star defensive tackle Aaron Donald leading the way. However, the team wasn't content with as they went on to trade for Pro Bowl corners Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters and sign nose tackle Ndamukong Suh. Along with these additions, Los Angeles also hired defensive coordinator Wade Phillips who is highly confident in the team's defense, via Rams Insider Myles Simmons.

“Not only the two corners, our two safeties are outstanding players and they can cover man to man,” Phillips said during minicamp earlier this month. “So, it gives you so many possibilities to double cover somebody and put the pressure on one of those guys to cover his guy by himself.”

On paper, the Rams might have the best defense in the NFL. Few can argue that fact with all the talent they've got up front and in the secondary. Phillips admits he'd be surprised if the team's pass defense weren't very good next season.

“I’d be surprised,” he said, “if we weren’t really good on pass defense.”

Los Angeles will be a team to watch next season not only for what could be an elite defense potentially crushing opposing teams. The Rams also upgraded offensively with the acquisition of wide receiver Brandin Cooks giving quarterback Jared Goff another solid target downfield while also taking the pressure off star running back Todd Gurley.

The Rams will give a glimpse of their revamped squad on Aug. 9 against the Baltimore Ravens in their first game of the NFL preseason.
