The DCU's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow finally has a release date. Milly Alcock will lead the film, which will be the second film in James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU regime.

Warner Bros and DC announced (via The Hollywood Reporter) that Supergirl will be released on June 26, 2026. This will come nearly a year after Superman, the first film in the DCU.

Other high-profile projects were given release dates as well. Warner Bros announced that Mortal Kombat 2 will be released on October 24, 2025. Zach Cregger's (Barbarian) will be released on January 16, 2026.

Before her solo film, Alcock will be appearing in Gunn's Superman film. This will mark her debut as the character. Recently, Sasha Calle played the role in one of the DCEU's last films, The Flash. Melissa Benoist also played that part in the Arrowverse for The CW.

Milly Alcock will play Supergirl in the DCU. She gained notoriety for her roles in Upright, and more recently, House of the Dragon. In the latter series, Alcock plays a younger version of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. This performance landed her a Critics' Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Craig Gillespie will direct Supergirl based on a script from Ana Nogueira. He is known for previously directing I, Tonya and Cruella. Last year, he also directed Dumb Money, a film about the GameStop short squeeze.

THR's report also revealed that the film is planning on commencing shooting in the fall. That will give the film more than ample time to shoot and head into post-production ahead of its June 2026 release.

What is the DCU?

The DCU is the new regime for DC Comics' cinematic universe. Zack Snyder previously kicked off the DCEU in 2013 with Man of Steel. Other notable films in that franchise include Suicide Squad and Justice League. However, the franchise was a case of diminishing results the longer it went.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was the final entry in the old DCEU regime. The film was a flop, grossing just $434 million worldwide during its theatrical run.

Now, James Gunn and Peter Safran will lead a new regime. Gunn is known for directing the MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. He also directed films like Super and Slither. His DC debut came when he directed The Suicide Squad. Gunn would subsequently develop a spin-off series, Peacemaker, for the franchise.

He will get to kick off the DCU with Superman. Gunn wrote the script and is directing the film (it is currently in production). David Corenswet was cast in the title role and will star alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, Nathan Fillon, and Isabela Merced.

Superman and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is only the beginning of the DCU. The franchise's upcoming film slate also includes The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, and a Teen Titans film.

Before the feature films are released, Creature Commandos will be released. It's an animated TV series for Max that will feature the likes of Frank Grillo, Maria Bakalova, Zoë Chao, David Harbour, Alan Tudyk, and Sean Gunn.
