Moon Knight just ended its run on Disney+ with a bang. But while much of the focus has been on Marc Spector overcoming his inner demons to prevent Ammit from coming to life, there is a lot of details hidden beneath the surface. Those who want to know more would have a blast with these Moon Knight episode 6 easter eggs.
Moon Knight episode 6 easter eggs
The afterlife according to Egyptian mythology
The final episode of Moon Knight goes back to several locations in the afterlife, which are based on several Egyptian mythological concepts. We see Marc standing in the middle of the Field of Reeds after Steven sacrificed himself in episode five. This place is where the souls of the righteous go to live the remainder of their existence in peace.
During the part where Marc rejects a peaceful afterlife, he goes back to see Steven in the realm of Duat near the Gates of Osiris. The former is the realm of the dead and is divided into different sections that house souls according to the lives they lived. The Gates of Osiris, meanwhile, is a doorway that connects the afterlife to the mortal world. It is named after Osiris, the Egyptian god of the dead and resurrection.
Ammit
After six episodes, Marvel fans finally get to see Ammit in his true form. Right before Marc was resurrected, Harrow succeeded in releasing Ammit and becoming her avatar.
As this happens, we see Marvel's interpretation of Ammit as a goddess with a crocodile head imposed on the body of a woman. We can see her wearing traditional Egyptian clothes with her hair braided on top while her reptilian hands are scaly and filled with sharp claws.
In Egyptian mythology, Ammit was considered a beast associated with the time of judgment. As opposed to the antagonist we see in Moon Knight, the Ammit described in ancient lore had the front legs of a lion and the hindquarters of a hippopotamus.
Layla as Tawaret's avatar
Right before Marc returned to life, Khonshu offered Layla the chance to be his avatar in order to defeat Harrow and Ammit. But since she has witnessed how troubled Marc has become due to his involvement with the Egyptian god, Layla flat out rejected him.
Article Continues BelowSeeing as the only solution to defeating Ammit is by summoning more avatars, Layla accepts Tawarets proposal to be her avatar instead. As the walls start to collapse, Layla accepts and comes out imbued with the goddess' abilities.
At this point, we see Layla garbed in a costume that takes its inspiration from ancient Egypt. We see Layla here with golden wings that can deflect bullets and allow her to fly. It remains to be seen whether she will retain her status as Tawaret's avatar and become a super hero herself in future Marvel projects.
Jake Lockley
There have been several points in the series where both Marc Spector and Steven Grant are unaware of their more violent actions. These scenes help spur rumors of a third personality living inside Marc's body. At the end of this episode, that personality is then revealed to be Jake Lockley.
In that scene, Harrow is fetched from a psychiatric ward and placed inside a limousine. Khonshu then appears to the defeated cult leader and reveals the extent of Marc's troubled mind by introducing Lockley. The more violent personality kills Harrow to ensure Ammit won't return ever.
In the comics, Lockley is a personality of Moon Knight that's known to drive a cab and is very good at gathering intelligence. While Spector is the mercenary and Steven is depicted as the billionaire in the source material, Lockley is meant to be a rougher individual who can mix in with criminal elements and learn what's needed from them.
Marvel has repurposed the Lockley personality as it did with Steven being more mild-mannered than his comic counterpart. In this iteration, Lockley is more vicious than Marc and is comfortable with killing people. This makes him an ideal fit for Khonshu, especially if Marvel pushes through with a possible second season of Moon Knight.
As it stands, there has been no news from Marvel about whether Oscar Isaac would return to the role anytime soon. What's certain, though, is the latest episode finally draws this part of Moon Knight's adventure to an end, complete with all the easter eggs mentioned above.
