The sensation that is Five Nights at Freddy's has translated from the computer screen to the movie screen, and Blumhouse Productions has reaped the rewards as the adaptation has crossed a box office milestone for the studio.

While the film released in theaters and on streaming platform Peacock, Five Nights at Freddy's has managed to pull in plenty of money at the box office for the little over a month it has been out. The end result has seen the film become the highest grossing release in the history of Blumhouse with over $283 million according to IGN, surpassing the roughly $278 million brought in by 2016's Split.

Studio head Jason Blum reiterated this point on social media and took the chance to thank the film's cast and crew for its success.

Five Nights at Freddy's is based on the popular video game franchise of the same name created by Scott Cawthon, who helped write the film adaptation's story and script. Josh Hutcherson starred as the film's version of Mike Schmidt, the night guard tasked with surviving five nights at Freddy Fazbear's pizza against the possessed animatronic band of animals.

Warner Bros Pictures originally held the rights to a film adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's and announced it in 2015, but it would quickly get stuck in pre-production for several years. Blumhouse would eventually pick up the film rights in 2017 and lead the charge on its production before finally getting the film off the ground in 2023.

Matthew Lillard, Elizabeth Lail, Mary Stuart Masterson, and newcomer Piper Rubio also starred in the film.

As for the franchise's future on the big screen, no official sequel announcement has been made as of the film becoming Blumhouse's most successful release. Lillard did confirm in January 2023, though, that he had signed a three-picture deal with Blumhouse, suggesting a sequel is likely.

Five Nights at Freddy's is currently in theaters.
