Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence got a positive injury update as news came out that he will return to practice ahead of the team’s crucial Week 17 matchup with the Carolina Panthers.

“Jaguars’ HC Doug Pederson said Trevor Lawrence is expected to be a limited participant at today’s practice,” ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported on Thursday.

This is a solid step for Lawrence, who didn’t practice on Wednesday. The QB is dealing with a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder, which is just the latest of his myriad of injuries in the home stretch of the season.

Playing in the Jaguars Week 17 game against the Panthers is crucial for Trevor Lawrence, injury or no injury, as the team can get into the playoffs by winning out.

Jaguars playoff scenarios

Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars currently lead the AFC South with an 8-7 record, but the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans are right behind due only to tiebreakers.

If the Jaguars win out, they will win the division. Even if they lose to the Panthers, though, since the Colts and Texans play each other in Week 18, a final-week victory over the Titans could give the Jags a Wild Card slot.

Despite scenarios where Jacksonville could get into the postseason even with a loss to the Panthers, getting the W in Week 17 is still the best way to help solidify a spot in the playoffs. The team could do this with CJ Beathard at the helm, but their chances will be much better with Lawrence.
