Knives Out 3, aka Wake Up Dead Man, has added another cast member. Rian Johnson has added MCU and Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner to his star-studded ensemble led by franchise veteran Daniel Craig.

Deadline reported the major casting as Renner joins the cast as Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 is about to premiere. Renner joins the likes of Josh O'Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Kerry Washington, Glenn Close, and Andrew Scott. One thing is for sure — Johnson is assembling the heavy hitters for the third installment in the Knives Out series.

This marks the first feature film that Renner will star in since his 2022 snowplow accident. After rehab and physical therapy, Renner was able to return to star in Mayor of Kingstown Season 3. His last film project was a voice performance in Back Home Again in 2021.

Knives Out 3's stacked cast

Since Netflix unveiled the title of Knives Out 3 as Wake Up Dead Man, a nod to the U2 song of the same name, there has been a lot of movement. Josh O'Connor and Cailee Spaeny were the first to join Craig in the cast. Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, and Glenn Close soon followed.

O'Connor and Spaeny are fresh off of acclaimed performances in Challengers and Priscilla, respectively. Scott just starred in All of Us Strangers with Paul Mescal. Washington is an Emmy winner and Close has been nominated for eight Oscars in her illustrious career.

The first Knives Out film was released in 2019 and was a box office hit. It grossed over $300 million during its theatrical run which was a major win for an original murder mystery.

Netflix subsequently acquired the rights to two sequels. In 2022, they released Glass Onion, the first of the sequels. Rian Johnson once again wrote and directed the film. However, the film only received a small theatrical release (which was still the biggest for a Netflix project) and grossed just $13 million before its streaming release on the platform.

Daniel Craig has remained a constant in the films and that will continue in Knives Out 3. He plays the detective, Benoit Blanc, who solves the mysteries in the films. While the rest of the ensembles change with every installment, Blanc is always on the case.
