The Green Bay Packers front office might have irrecoverably irked their superstar quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.
The 2020 NFL MVP (and hopeful Jeopardy! host) is reportedly fed up with Packers management and is threatening to retire if he doesn't get a change of scenery.
Former Packers head coach Mike Holmgren — who coached Rodgers' successor, Brett Favre to a Super Bowl title in 1995 — is placing the blame on the franchise for their mismanagement.
“I can't imagine a relationship between the coach, or management, or whoever is making the decisions and a star quarterback like that getting to this point,” Holmgren said on ESPN Chicago's “Carmen and Jurko” show. “I just can't imagine it. I wouldn't allow it. It wouldn't happen.”
“With a franchise quarterback and a guy as good as Aaron — you don't treat all the players the same,” he said. “You have a line that no one crosses, but I would call him in and say, ‘Look, we're going to do this. This is how it's going to affect you.'”
“‘We've got to get ready for when you retire. We've got to kind of think of the franchise. But, nothing's going to happen now. You're the man. You're the guy.'”
An anonymous player on the Packers said the Packers have found themselves in a standoff against the wrong guy.
“Aaron is an intelligent, trolling, petty, mother———,” an unnamed Packers player told Tyler Dunne of golongtd.com. “He’s going to get the last laugh. He’s going to make you look f——— stupid for disrespecting him.
Rodgers has privately referred to Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst as “Jerry Krause” — the infamous GM who built and broke up the 1990s Chicago Bulls.
