The Jacksonville Jaguars got embarrassed in Week 17 against the New England Patriots, 50-10. No matter how bad the Jaguars have been this season, this is an inexcusable loss and they should feel embarrassed for what they put out on the field.

In most of their losses this season, they were at least somewhat competing with a few of the teams that they have lost to. Giving up 50 points to any team in the NFL is never okay and even when a team is struggling like the Jaguars, you have to be frustrated as a fan or a player.

Let's take a look at four reasons why the Jaguars lost this game to the Patriots in Week 17.

Jaguars Week 17 Takeaways

4. Defense?

The defense hasn't necessarily been horrible this season, but they also haven't been great. This was the worst that the defense has looked all year as allowing 50 points in the NFL is completely inexcusable.

If Jacksonville wants to have any success in the next decade, they're going to need to figure out their defensive struggles. New England doesn't even have that great of an offense to where a team should be giving up 50 points against them, but the Jaguars did exactly that. They gave up four rushing touchdowns and three passing touchdowns, which is completely inexcusable.

3. Season was already over, just have to move on

The reality of this loss was that it doesn't really mean much for the Jaguars and if anything it kind of only helps them out in terms of getting a higher draft pick.

Jacksonville could have been the team that won 50-10 and it still wouldn't have meant much for their season. They have been knocked out of the playoffs for most of the season so they can't stress about this loss for too long.

2. Clearly wasn't Urban Meyers fault

Many people were hoping that the Jaguars were going to play better once Urban Meyer was out as their head coach. This has clearly not been the case because ever since he has gotten fired, they have found even less success than when he was their head coach.

1. Develop Trevor Lawrence in the offseason

Trevor Lawrence has certainly been one of the more disappointing players in all of football this season. He has done some impressive things out there and most of his struggles can be contributed to the lack of weapons around him and just not a great offensive line. On the year, he threw for 3,418 yards with 10 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He clearly wasn't what Jacksonville was hoping for but he has shown glimpses of him being able to be the quarterback that the world imagined him to be.

On Sunday against the Patriots, he threw for 193 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. He did not play anywhere near his capability. If the Jaguars want to have any success in the future, they're going to need him to be the quarterback that they want Lawrence to be.

This offseason, their biggest focus should be developing Trevor Lawrence. They also going out and making sure to get guys around him who can't make plays and block for him.
