Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley has agreed to a four-year contract extension worth up to $60 million and $45 million in guaranteed money, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The $45 million in guarantees is the most ever for a running back as well as the largest per-year average for any running back, per Schefter. Gurley, who still had two more years left on his rookie contract, will now be under contract with the Rams for the next six seasons.
After a down 2016 season, Gurley had a terrific year in 2017 where he had 2,093 yards from scrimmage and 19 total touchdowns en route to winning the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award. His performance was instrumental in helping the Rams go 11-5 and make the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

The fact that he got the most-ever guaranteed money for a running back should please Gurley, who had been making noise recently about a possible 2021 strike due to the lack of guaranteed deals in the NFL compared to the NBA.
With Gurley and wide receiver Brandin Cooks now locked up to big extensions, the focus now turns to Rams star defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who has yet to receive his massive extension. Donald, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, is expected to become the highest-paid defensive player in the league with his next contract.
