The New York Giants are rounding out their Joe Judge coaching staff. According to Cameron Wolfe of ESPN, they have found their defensive coordinator. The Giants are hiring Patrick Graham from the Miami Dolphins, who served in the same role.

Graham's addition to the Giants' coaching staff should come as no surprise. He was New York's defensive line coach on Ben McAdoo's staff (2016-17) before being hired by the Green Bay Packers. Graham also has ties with Judge, as he coached in a variety of roles in New England from 2009 to 2015.

Graham's defense with the Giants will likely come out of a hybrid 3-4. He ran the same scheme in Miami, where he had the NFL's 30th-ranked yardage and 32nd-ranked point-scoring defense in 2019. His head coach in Miami, Brian Flores, came out of the Patriots' organization, who ran a similar defense. Unlike New England, the Dolphins' defense was talent deficient.

“Pat is a Yale guy. He's extremely bright. He is great with the fundamentals and has very strong leadership ability. I can't say enough good things about him. We worked together in New England and I know the type of passion he has and the way he works. We have a lot of the same core values and beliefs from a defensive standpoint,” Flores said when hiring his staff in February of 2019, via MiamiDolphins.com.

The Giants already runs a 3-4 look, so the transition should be seamless. Expect New York, under general manager Dave Gettleman, to prioritize building a defense around Patrick Graham's preferences.

Expect the Giants to round-out their new coaching staff by the end of the week.
