It did not take long for John Harbaugh to secure a new job after the Baltimore Ravens fired him. The New York Giants quickly swooped in and hired the seasoned coach to replace Brian Daboll.
With Harbaugh now at the helm, the Giants have started to make changes to the roster. On Tuesday, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the team has released Bobby Okereke.
“The team’s Walter Payton Man of the Year amassed 385 tackles in three seasons with the Giants (143 last season), but now will get a head start on free agency. Okereke was entering the final year of a four-year $40 million contract and was due to make $9 million,” wrote Schultz on X.

Schultz posited that the veteran linebacker should garner a lot of interest in free agency.
“Bobby Okereke was a very valued member of the Giants on and off the field—a key voice and leader,” added Schultz.
“Just 29, he should have a market of teams interested in him both as a player and as a culture builder in the locker room.”
As captain of the Giants' defensive unit, Okereke provided consistency and stability. Last season, he tallied 143 total tackles, including 79 solo tackles, two interceptions, and six passes defended. He was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week in December.
While the Giants will be sad to see Okereke leave, his exit will give the team more financial flexibility, which will be helpful, as Harbaugh is expected to further tinker with the lineup.
It is still early in Harbaugh's tenure in New York, but the ripple effects are already apparent.
