The start of the new year means the start of awards season, and things kicked off with the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys to celebrate the best in art and technical achievement on TV. While night one of the two night event saw plenty of winners across primetime TV, HBO's The Last of Us walked away the biggest victor by taking home eight awards on the evening out of 19 total nominations.

Leading the pack of awards were wins in Outstanding Guest Actor and Actress in a Drama series, which went to Nick Offerman and Storm Reid, respectively, via Variety. Offerman was nominated for his appearance in episode 3, Long, Long Time, where he starred as Bill alongside Murray Bartlett's Frank, who was also nominated for the episode.

Reid starred in the series' eighth episode, Left Behind, as Riley Abel opposite Bella Ramsey's Ellie. The episode was a near-direct adaptation of the game's Left Behind DLC, telling the story of how Ellie's friendship with Riley and how the pair discovered Ellie's immunity to the cordyceps.

Anna Torv was also nominated in this category for her performance as Tess.

In addition to performance wins, The Last of Us won for Best Visual Effects, Outstanding Sound Mixing, Outstanding Sound Editing, Outstanding Picture Editing, Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, and Outstanding Main Title Design.

The Bear, Wednesday, and The White Lotus all followed behind The Last of Us with four wins, a piece, on the evening.

The Last of Us' dominance at the awards reflect the overwhelming acclaim the series has received since its HBO premiere on January 15, 2023. It was quickly heralded as the best video game adaptation, to date, with particular praise heaped on series leads Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey for their portrayals of Joel and Ellie over the first season's eight episodes.

Season two of The Last of Us is scheduled to premiere in 2025.
