When news broke that Vince McMahon, fresh off of an industry-rocking controversy involving paying out hush money to an ex-employee following an in-office affair, would appear on WWE SmackDown, the Friday night affair became must-watch television.

Would Mr. McMahon apologize for his wrongdoings? Or would he instead come out with a righteous indignation the likes of which fans haven't seen since the Attitude Era?

None of the above. No, McMahon took the ring at the start of the show, delivered a few lines about the WWE being “Then, Now, Forever, Together,” and then just sort of… left.

If that was that, then that very much would have been that, but a funny thing happened on Monday Night RAW, the very next show held by WWE: Mr. McMahon showed up too.

That's right, midway through the first hour of RAW, McMahon's music hit, he walked down to the ring, and delivered another short and sweet bit of mic work to the WWE Universe, this time to promote John Cena's appearance on the following week's edition of the show, which, as the ex-CEO pointed out, is the longest-running weekly wrestling show in television history. McMahon soaked up the reaction from the assembled crowd in Nebraska, who are almost definitely not taking the trip down to the following edition of RAW set to film in Texas next Monday and then just sort of… left, again.

What gives? Does McMahon have some extra time on his hands now that his CEO/Chairman of the Board duties are being done by Stephanie, and he simply wants to bask in the cheers of his adoring fans? Or is this simply a way to keep his name in the headlines as a reminder to the Board of how valuable he is to the company? Either way, it's weird indeed.
