As teams around MLB look to add pitching via the trade market, Dylan Cease of the Chicago White Sox has arguably been the hottest name available. However, any team looking to acquire Cease might need to look elsewhere for their pitching needs.

The White Sox aren't going to trade away Cease for cheap. While there has been widespread interest, Chicago is reluctant to make a deal until they find an offer to their liking, via Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

“I would say Cease doesn't get moved at this point,” an NL executive said. “The White Sox are not budging on price, and teams don't seem to have interest in paying that price.”

Cease's value is only increased by his current contract. The right-hander is under team control through the 2026 season. Making $8 million in 2024, Cease won't cost much against the payroll. But trading for Cease would certainly require a ransom of prospects.

In 123 starts since joining the White Sox, Cease has pitched to a 43-35 record with a 3.83 ERA and a 792/294 K/BB ratio. He was a star in 2022, holding a 14-8 record with a 2.20 ERA and 277 strikeouts; all career-bests.

Still, Cease is coming off of a down year in which he had a 4.58 ERA and a career-high 79 walks. Because of that setback, teams have been just as reluctant to reach Chicago's asking price.

The White Sox need a lot of work to get back into content and getting a king's ransom for Dylan Cease would certainly help. But until they see a deal they like, Chicago is content entering the season with Cease still in their rotation.
