Giants' defensive snap counts vs. the Chargers: • Interception aside, that looked more like the typically disruptive Dexter Lawrence yesterday. Darius Alexander has gone from healthy scratch to DT2 in four weeks. Quite a fast rise for the rookie who looked sluggish until these past two weeks. • The OLB usage continues to evolve. The Giants exclusively rode Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter yesterday after mixing in snaps for Chauncey Golston and Tomon Fox in the first three games. Almost dead even snap count among the top three. Carter's versatility is great, but they lined him up mostly on the edge yesterday and he produced eight pressures. This was the ultimate example of sacks not telling the story. Carter didn't have any, but he repeatedly rushed Justin Herbert into incompletions. Some of the pressures were lightning fast and just destroyed plays before they started. It's nice to mix Carter inside, but they need to get that talent on the edge as much as possible. Burns lined up at LB for a handful of snaps. It's wild how fluidly he moves in the open field at 6-5, 250. He's having an All-Pro caliber season. His sack on Herbert was the type of finishing play the Giants have lacked. If Herbert is even able to throw that away, the Chargers probably go for it on fourth-and-9 from their 46. Instead, they had to punt and then didn't get the ball back with enough time to do anything. • The Giants continue to rotate at the spot next to ILB Bobby Okereke. Darius Muasau was there on early downs, Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles got some snaps on second/third downs, Carter and Burns got some snaps there on passing downs, and Dane Belton was the money backer on passing downs. • Paulson Adebo is the Giants' only defensive player to play every snap this season after Jevon Holland missed nine snaps in the first half with a neck injury. Adebo has been solid in coverage aside from Dallas. Rough look in run support when he got dragged for 18 yards by Omarion Hampton. This is my fourth straight week questioning why they continue the CB rotation. Cor'Dale Flott has his limitations, but he's a reliable player. Reliable is not a word I'd use to describe Deonte Banks, who got beat on a double move for a 36-yard TD and failed to contain Herbert on a 24-yard scramble on third-and-19. He also got flagged for a holding penalty that turned a third-and-10 into a first down late in the game. He did rebound by breaking up a pass two plays later. Major bounce-back performance from Dru Phillips, who was benched for a stretch in the second half last week. Even yesterday they moved Flott into the slot for a few snaps. Just ride with Phillips and Flott! Phillips has been the most targeted player in the NFL this season. That's led to some rough moments, but he was lights out yesterday against a quality Chargers WR corps. He did a good job avoiding a pick on his interception, which was his second of the season. • The Giants only dressed three safeties, which made things interesting as Holland and Tyler Nubin each left the game at different times. Not sure if Nubin was just cramping because he was in and out at the end of the game. Not sure what he needs to do to fix the poor angles, but it's a recurring problem. Belton was between the hash and numbers on the 36-yard TD pass at the end of the first half. Was a laser by Herbert, but need to get to that.

Been slacking on the Monday snap count analysis. Here's the Giants' offensive snap counts vs. the Chargers:

• Cam Skattebo touched the ball on 27 of his 57 snaps (47%). That's quite a workload, especially since most of those touches finished with a car crash-type impact. Then add in how violently he blocks and he's certainly earned time in the cold tub today.

Skattebo's stat line (25 carries for 79 yards) looks less impressive than his performance felt. Chargers tightened their run D up in the second half and in the red zone, but Skattebo ran hard and picked up gritty yards.

Devin Singletary ran hard as well, but it will be good to have the more dynamic Tyrone Tracy back as the complement to Skattebo.

• Not as much substituting yesterday with so much no-huddle, so they mostly rolled with Skattebo-Johnson-Nabers-Slayton-Robinson until Nabers got hurt. Was interesting that Darius Slayton was out before and after Nabers' injury during that drive. Slayton has been dealing with groin and calf injuries.

Jalin Hyatt and Beaux Collins combined for 50 snaps and 0 targets. Collins was first up after Nabers got hurt, but Hyatt played more in the second half. Have to think these two will split reps at WR3 until/if the Giants add a WR.

• Slight uptick in Daniel Bellinger's usage. Don't think the TE snaps have to be so monopolized by Theo Johnson. Bellinger's lone catch was a 13-yarder on third-and-13. Johnson only had three catches for 17 yards, but they were big plays: 3-yard TD on the shovel pass and the 10-yarder on third-and-5 to essentially drain the clock.

• Andrew Thomas went from 28 snaps last week to 76 snaps yesterday. He's fully back and it makes such a difference to not have to worry about the blindside. Also, huge play to recover the fumbled snap. Imagine the shift if the Chargers recovered that on the goal line in a three-point game.
